S.O.S. say what?!! Yay for my first night at S.O.S.! The kids were too cute and they were so good. I was prepared for craziness and these kids blew me away. I didn't hear anything disrespectful or very negative at all. The worst problem we had was that some of the kids were shy and a little hesitant to participate and for the first night I think that's pretty understandable. It was kind of hard for me to see the differences between these kids and kids in Katy and not want to go chew out their parents, but I guess I'll get used to it. Really, there is such a difference between the kids with "good" parents and the kids with absentee parents it would shock you. For example, one of my kindergarteners can read and write better than the third graders I met and he's way ahead of the first and second graders. When I asked one of the leaders about him they were just like "Oh, his mom works with him." I wish parents could come and see this. I don't know if it would make much difference to some of them, but to see that these kids have the ability and aren't being taught really upsets me. Oh, and I want to be clear that I don't think it should be up to the teachers to drag these kids through school. Time for my cliche of the day: you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Why do I start out all my posts with "ok" or "ok so"? How boring is that? I'll try to come up with something clever, or better yet why doesn't someone else write something clever and send it to me.
